Front Row: Carmen Seeley, S.T.O.P.S. To Violence Project; Giovanna Pirro, Government Relations & Aboriginal Affairs; Wendy Sinclair-Sparvier, Regina Public Library - Albert Branch; Cathie Kryzanowski, Moose Jaw YM/YWCA; Sherri Evans, Deloitte & Touche Passion, Energy, Enthusiasm, Commitment These words describe all and each one of the participants in our first Leadership Regina class. Yet, they each brought specific strength to the group. They thought it very important and wanted us to mention that not a single one of them had the "right answer" to issues, but as a team they were able to build upon each other's strengths and come up with "better answers". it is their individual strengths we want to tell you about.... David Cowan He now devotes all his creativity and passion to building community, as he firmly believes every bit of effort counts toward making Regina a better place to live and in which to achieve one's potential. With his fresh enthusiasm and his willingness to walk down unexplored paths, David encouraged his teammates to move on and walk their talk Sherri Evans Sherri is always eager to look at the world from somebody else's shoes and to discover common ground among disparate perspectives. these were the strengths she brought to the group. She encouraged her teammates to reach that place where their different perspectives joined and to walk forward towards a common goal once they had reached that point. Cathie Kryzanowski With her disciplined enthusiasm, Cathie encouraged her teammates to embark into new initiatives only after defining clear and realistic goals, and to exercise their leadership skills with a healthy dose of prudence and patience. Cathie believes opportunities will knock at your door when you look for them, and devotes her energies and passion to encourage others to actively look out for a better tomorrow. Rhonda Parker She brought this belief to the group, encouraging her teammates to look behind what is for that which can be. she supported the them while searching for a vision, and once she knew they had reached that "ah-ha", she encouraged them to go on and grab it. Giovanna Pirro Giovanna brought with her an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a true interest in people in and for themselves. she also brought her sheer joy for life and for the adventures it presents us with at the turn of every corner. with her ability to laugh at her own follies and mistakes, she encouraged her teammates to remain truthful to themselves and to follow their paths without fearing failure or social ridicule. Rod Schmidt A successful voyage is very seldom the result of one man's efforts. Rod was a coach to his teammates. a coach that encouraged them to remember that at the end of the day family and friends are our most valuable assets, and that with true success comes the unmistakable sense of having been part of something worth a collective effort. Susan Sebo Susan also reminded them that learning is truly a lifelong initiative as they watched her steadily advance toward completion of a community development certificate program through the extension university. Carmen Seely Carmen stands behind her beliefs while remaining open to alternatives. in challenging her teammates to expand on their positions, Carmen helped them to think beyond their comfort zones and to find the courage to stand behind their beliefs and commitments. Debbie Silvius Debbie reminded them that in setting the compass they commit to a path and that, while most of the time they may find themselves walking alone, it is often in the sharing of the journey that one finds the riches that replenish the spirit and gives one the energy to keep going forward. Wendy Sinclair-Sparvier She brought to the group that kind of calm confidence that comes only from experience. she encouraged her teammates to find peace within themselves before reaching out to others, as only a spirit in peace can seize opportunities for others. Candace Yates For Candace, both family and nations can provide supportive and enriched environments for individuals. Moreover, for Candace, the public and the private interests can often complement each other. And with her ability to point out the complementary properties of opposites, Candace helped her teammates find true value in diversity. Final Recognition The group wishes to acknowledge the valuable contributions of Glen Nelson and Basil Quewezance. Their sense of humour and their willingness to go where no one has gone before, were critical to creating a learning environment for all their teammates. Unfortunately, Glen and Basil withdrew from the program due to personal circumstances. TOP OF PAGE |
