2003 - 2004 Community Projects PET S.T.O.P. A group of four Leadership Regina participants took part in a project for the Regina Humane Society Pet S.T.O.P. Pilot Program Launch in partnership with North Central Community Society. Pet S.T.O.P. (Supply & Training Outreach Program) promotes responsible pet ownership through educational programming for adults and children. Pet S.T.O.P. also serves as a distribution centre to provide pet owners in the area with pet supplies at no charge. Leashes, collars, harnesses, and I.D. tags, as well as pet food samples and coupons are available to pet owners attending the Pet S.T.O.P. centre and its pet care education programs. The Leadership Regina project team's primary role was to assist the Regina Humane Society in communicating its message to area residents regarding the Pet S.T.O.P. project launch and the program objectives. This was achieved through the development of a communications strategy, developing communication pieces, accessing North Central Community Society resources for its residents (newsletter, network e-mail list of agencies), and general public service announcements. The Pet S.T.O.P. program was launched in June 2004. Sessions are held the second Saturday of every month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Albert Scott Community Centre. Some recent topics have included first aid tips for pets, how to keep pets safe and sound, and matters related to stray animals.
