LEADERSHIP
REGINA
is a
unique program designed to identify and motivate aspiring
leaders in our community. Based on a successful model that
originated 40 years ago in Philadelphia, there are now more
than 700 community leadership programs worldwide. In the
past few years, new Canadian leadership programs have
“graduated” more than 1000 participants! While each
program is designed to address the unique challenges and
concerns of their individual communities, they all seek to:
- Identify and nurture potential
leaders;
- Develop networks of people who can work
together to address community challenges; and,
- Instill a sense of community
trusteeship among potential leaders.
As a community we recognize the many
challenges we face as a result of the rapid change occurring
locally and around the globe. Not only is the world around
us changing, but so too are the leadership qualities
required. The role of a leader has changed from that of one
person controlling a group to that of facilitating shared
leadership. Leadership now emphasizes empowerment, vision,
culture, collaboration, complexity, diversity, non-linear
thinking, working in teams and bringing diverse people
together to look at new solutions to the challenges we face.
Many successful examples of leadership
already exist in every sector of our city. By building
bridges between existing and emerging leaders within each of
these sectors, new networks will form and create a shared
vision for our community.
The
Program...
Leadership Regina is currently in its sixth year. It
is an experiential
program that will enhance participants’ leadership skills
in a community-based learning environment. Sessions are held
from September through June each year.
Each class will participate in an Opening
Retreat, monthly Leadership Learning Days and a Closing
Retreat. Learning Days involve a combination of
guest speakers and hands-on learning within the community.
Integrated throughout the entire program is the opportunity
to enhance core leadership competencies. There are many ways
you can get involved… participant, committee member,
facilitator, or sponsor.
